Workshops

Chinese Paper-Folding 

Follow up a storytelling program in this hands-on experience with Chinese culture.  Students can learn this engaging art form whereby they create objects by folding colorful paper.  Students must carefully follow step-by-step directions to be successful. Charge for materials additional. (Grades 3-12)

Chinese Calligraphy 

The graceful characters of Chinese writing, so different from English alphabet, intrigue students. Let Linda guide students in learning the basic strokes of Chinese calligraphy. They will learn to write a number of simple Chinese characters. 45 days advance notice needed to order pens. (Grades 1-12)

Chinese Paper-Cutting

Use simple pieces of paper, and a pair of scissors to create wonderful images, pictures and designs. Chinese paper-cutting is a favorite hobby Chinese children do in their spare-time. See animals, flowers and people come alive out of paper. Charge for materials are additional. (Grades 1-12)

Residencies

Everyone is a Storyteller

In this residency Linda will lead several sessions to help the students develop their storytelling skills. The students will learn how to make a story come alive by using different voices, facial expressions and movements. One or more of the Chinese art workshops such as paper-folding, paper-cutting or calligraphy will be included in the residency, the products will be displayed at the consummating event—a storytelling presentation delivered by the participants. (Grades: 1-5)

Draw Snake Add Feet

In this residency Linda will lead several sessions that help the students develop their storytelling skills. They will learn to tell several Chinese proverb stories such as "Draw Snake Add Feet", "Guarding the Tree to Catch a Rabbit", "Three Hundred Liang of Silver is Not Here". They will also develop stories of matching themes from their own culture. One or more of the Chinese art workshops such as paper-folding, paper-cutting or calligraphy will be included in the residency, the products will be displayed at the consummating event—a storytelling presentation delivered by the participants. (Grades: 6-12)
